Art
The Art department employs a comprehensive and culturally responsive approach to art instruction which allows students the exposure to a wide range of art mediums that they are able to connect with. Throughout the year students are able to learn and work with Oil, watercolor and acrylic paints. They are also exposed to sculpting, collage making, industrial design and graffiti. Students learn to work on individual pieces but also are given the opportunity to collaborate on larger art projects with their fellow students. Music
The music department exposes students to an interdisciplinary approach that is both culturally relevant and holistic in scope. Music theory and practice are the cornerstones of the curriculum. Before students are able to engage in the active learning of musical instruments they are exposed to systematic and tiered lessons on music reading and composition. This prepares them for the specific instrument students will learn during the semester.
At the HS level, students learn a wider range of instruments such as the keyboard, guitar, the drums and congas. HS students have the opportunity to perform as a class and during school assemblies and events. In addition, all students are exposed to the process of digital beat making and composition, which is particularly popular with students.
