MissionThe Extended Day Program is held during the afternoon hours and is meant to maximize student academic achievement and provide personal fulfillment while creating possibilities to promote life-long skills and learning for our students. All programming is closely aligned to the vision and mission of the Opportunity Charter School.About the Extended Day ProgramThe Extended Day Program at the Opportunity Charter School takes place directly after school and is an extension of the experience we cultivate daily within OCS. Through this program students continue to learn through a variety of activities and hands on experiences. The OCS Extended Day Program provides a safe and enjoyable environment for its students. The program offers students structured academic support and extracurricular time. The program runs Monday through Thursday 3:10pm – 5:30pm. Your child’s schedule will vary depending on the Extended Day program they participate in.Enrollment InformationIn order to enroll in the Extended Day Program, parents must complete an enrollment package that includes:o Registration Form and Parental Permission Slip o Emergency Contact Information Academic SupportHomework Help Assistance: We offer students in grades 6th through 9th homework help between the hours of 3:15pm to 4:00pm Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Taking part in the Homework Help program encourages your child to build upon the lessons learned in class and sit with a teacher who knows what is expected of OCS students’ work.Tutoring: We offer students in grades 6th through 9th tutoring in English and Math between the hours of 4:00pm to 5:30pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Tutoring gives your child the opportunity to work with a teacher who are familiar with not only the OCS staff and curriculum, but also know your child’s strengths and weaknesses. Credit Recovery: We offer high school students the ability to make up a credit for a class they have failed. Instructors will teach a standard-based lesson and assign homework, test and quizzes to students. Students may recover credits in Credit Recovery at the beginning of the first semester (October) or the beginning of the second semester (February). Athletic ActivitiesMiddle School Basketball: As one of the two original OCS athletic teams, the Middle School Basketball Team has been in the championship round five out of the six years of their existence. They have taken league division championships both in the 2007-2008, 2008-2009, and 2009-2010 seasons. They also won the CSAA city title in 2008-2009 and 2009-2010.
School Vacation and Snow DaysThe program will not operate during school holidays and vacations. The program will not operate on snow days or in the event of an early dismissal. |
